Mr. Hannibal has taken over the business and would make what
he could of it while he (Mr. Wendt) was returning to his home
in Holstein.
Since then Mr. Wendt has returned to New York where
he is acting as Mr. Hannibal's Agent. The firm in Canton is
still known as Wendt & Co. and is there in charge of a Hollander
named G. B. Huygen who was also formerly in the German firm and
⚫igned "per procuration".
Two of the British Canton erchants have made strong
representation on the subject as they say Mr. Hannibal is merely
a cloak for Wendt & Co. who are still keenly competing with the
British firms in Canton, The matter has been fully reported to
the Hongkong Government, as yet without any steps being taken.
SNOWMAN & Co. (formerly Lambke & Rogge ship & Freight brokers).
Mr. A. W. Snowman was always known as a prominent member of the
German community and shared a house with some other Germans.
On the outbreak of the war he stated he was a British
subject and changed the name of his firm to Snowman & Co.
Messrs. Lambke & Rogge who have both left the Colony are German
subjects.
Ulderup & Schulter. Engineers. This firm was a branch of Jebsen
& Co. and acted as their Agents in selling machinery &c. Their
business is bankrupt and the deficit should be provided out of
Jebsen's funds, but up to the present this has not been
permitted.
Mesare, Wo. Keyerink & Co. This firm had considerable stocks
which are now being gradually disposed of. The manner in which
their business is now being conducted in China is explained in
the first page of the attached memorandum.
